November 2000

First a big thank you to all of the parents and children who helped us with this study.  EPICure is a unique study that has been well received by our colleagues both across the British Isles and around the world.  Although you haven’t seen a lot of press coverage about the study, it has been presented at medical meetings not only all around the UK and Ireland but also in the USA and in Europe.  The first major publication has come out in the New England Journal of Medicine. This is a major international medical journal and their willingness to publish the study is a measure of how important a study it is!  Other aspects of the study have or will appear in the press over the next few months.

In this first Newsletter, we want to summarise the major findings of the study so that all of the families who took part have the opportunity to share the data too without having to brave reading a technical description of the study.
This is important because we have just received news that we have been funded by two important national charities, Wellbeing and BLISS, to start the next phase of the study to see how the EPICure children are doing as they start school. You may have heard of BLISS recently as they were part of the Blue Peter New Life Appeal.   Read more>
