Follow Up

Follow Up Plans

The EPICure 2 group will be followed up on their baby units. When they go home the doctors looking after them will explain the study to each parent and ask for their permission for the child to continue in EPICure 2. As with the original Epicure study they will also be assessed at 21/2 years old.

This will allow direct comparison between the outcomes for babies born in 1995 and those born in 2006.

Specialised Breathing Follow Up

For infants born in and around London, there will be the opportunity for specialised assessments of breathing patterns and lung growth and development both while the baby is being looked after on the Special Care Baby Unit at Homerton University Hospital, and during the first two years of life after discharge home.

These measurements, which are done while the infant is sleeping quietly, will be performed by a team of doctors and nurses specialising in children’s breathing problems, led by Professor Janet Stocks.
